Holbrook (July 1, 2014)—Over the past year and a half, Navajo County and Summit Healthcare have been focused on finding a new healthcare model for Navajo County employees and their families. The goal has been to improve the access to health care and the delivery of health care services to County employees, while reducing the overall costs to both the employee and the County.
After months of planning, consultation and negotiations Navajo County and Summit Healthcare hosted an open house to unveil the new High Desert Healthcare Facility on the Holbrook Campus of Navajo County. The new facility will bring much needed access to primary care in the central part of the County.
“In March of this year, our Team brought us a new model for how the County could handle healthcare needs,” said Chairman Jesse Thompson. “That model was approved by the Board at that time because we saw that it would help the County improve access to primary healthcare services to its employees and control costs in the short and long term. The opening of this new High Desert Healthcare facility is an extension of that vision and goal, and I am very impressed with how Summit Healthcare and its' team has partnered with us. I see a bright future for this effort for many years to come.”
The High Desert Healthcare facility will be staffed by Summit Healthcare doctors, nurses and staff in buildings operated and maintained by the County. County employees, and their dependents can walk-in or schedule an appointment for primary care and get the same service they would receive at any other Summit operated facility in the region. The new facility has exam rooms, record keeping, and other functions of a normal doctor's office.
The facility has 5,000 square feet of office space, exam rooms and other amenities. It will be staffed by 5 doctors, 2 nurses, 2 medical assistants and office management staff. Hours of operation will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7:00am to 1:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00pm to 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00 noon.
“Employees and their dependents will have access to Summit Healthcare offices across the region, in addition to the new on-campus healthcare facility in Holbrook,” said Navajo County Human Resources Director Kimberly Eavenson. “Summit has a great team across the region and our employees, and their dependents, have the ability to access that team in a number of locations. The focus of today is the great accomplishment of our partnership with Summit, and the hard work of our facilities maintenance team in renovating this space in under three months, but I think we are all excited to see how this facility is going to improve access to care for our employees in this area.”
“I am really impressed with how this has come together,” said Summit Healthcare CEO Ron McArthur. “The dedication of this facility only a year or so after we really got going on this plan is remarkable. It was on time and on budget, and I could not be more pleased. This new approach to healthcare is a unique model for health service and I am proud of our Summit Healthcare Team, our Summit Healthcare Board, and the Navajo County Board of Supervisors for taking the steps to make this happen. The facility is beautiful. We have 5 exam rooms, a reception area and all the other amenities that you would expect to find at our other facilities. I think this fits perfectly with our vision and mission to provide great care and retain patients here on the mountain.”
