Below, you will find a brief summary of each department.
Administration
Navajo County Administration is comprised of Finance (including the Purchasing and Special District departments), Human Resources, Government and Community Relations, and Risk Management.
Animal Control
Animal Control provides compassionate, timely and effective response to domestic animal situations within the unincorporated areas of Navajo County on non-tribal lands and insures the safety of all citizens and animal populations.
Assessor
Assessor to locate, identify, and appraise at current market value, locally assessable property subject to ad valorem taxes and to process exemptions specified by law
Board of Supervisors
The Clerk of the Board provides services for meeting management, official record keeping, boards and commissions, records request and research, claims, special events, and various other services.

Clerk of the Court
Provide official record keeper and fiduciary agent for the Superior Court including public access to the records of the Superior Court, attend each Superior Court proceeding to record the actions of the court, receive filings for initiating Superior Court actions, provide various family support services, issue and record marriage licenses, process applications for private process servers, bail bondsmen and passports, and various other services.
Cooperative Extension
Navajo County Cooperative Extension provides educational programs and services impacting critical social, economic, agricultural, and environmental issues.
County Attorney
Prosecuting crime is our primary function along with providing legal advice to the county’s elected officials and departments. However, we also provide a variety of other services to citizens, such as assistance with adoptions, bad check recovery, child support collection, and services to victims and witnesses.
Elections
Administers, prepares, conducts and tallies Federal, State and County elections in accordance with Arizona Revised Statutes.
Emergency Management and Preparedness
Oversees the coordination of response and mitigation activity in the event of an emergency and promotes planning and preparation for disasters.
Finance
Provides financial information and service to Navajo County government so they can effectively manage their resources.
Human Resources
Provides exceptional customer service to all Navajo County employees and applicants with regard to all aspects of hiring, benefits, retirement and compensation.
Justice Court
Handles civil lawsuits where the amount in dispute is $10,000 or less, landlord and tenant controversies, small claims cases and the full range of civil and criminal traffic offenses.
Legal Defender
Library District
Improve and expand library services and materials that offer recreational, educational and cultural enrichment to the public.
Northeastern Arizona Innovative Workforce Solutions
Administers and implements Department of Labor funded Workforce Investment grants for citizens of Navajo, Apache, and Gila counties that reside off tribal lands.
Planning and Zoning
Promote control and growth of development and regulate and monitor design, construction, materials, and location of building construction.
Public Defender
Represents indigent defendants charged with felony and misdemeanor crimes.
Public Fiduciary
Protect the legal rights and financial interests of vulnerable adults needing guardianship and conservatorship and to administer decedent estates where there is no one else able to do so.
Public Health Services
Promote and protect public health through education, prevention and partnerships.
Public Works
Construct, improve, repair and maintain County Highways and Streets in a reasonably safe and cost-effective manner and protect the lives and real property of citizens of Navajo County from flooding.
Recorder
Record and maintain, for permanent public record all documents presented for recording, including electronic recordings. Provide voting services for voter registration, voter outreach and early voting.
Risk Management
Reduces and manages risks involved in management of the County and it’s employees.
Sheriff
Provide all individuals a safe environment using innovative techniques and resources while being sensitive to the needs of each community.
Superintendent of Schools
Schools office handles fiscal responsibilities for the school districts in the county. This includes payroll, expense vouchers, and completion reports. We are the filing office for school elections, for school board, bonds and overrides.
Superior Court
Handle matters including civil, criminal, mental health, probate, family court matters which include divorce, paternity, child support and parenting time, and juvenile matters.
Treasurer
Collects and apportions taxes to the proper taxing authorities, invests county funds and pays bonds.
